TFC 2024
The Tourism Futures Convention gathers students, academics and practitioners to jointly discuss the future of tourism. TFC is a futures convention, not a pure technology convention. We are interested in scenarios of how the world of tomorrow could look like, including but not limited to technology. If you are interested in tourism futures approach, please join us!

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Martin Robertson
Dr Martin Robertson's passion for teaching and learning application and excellence has been applied successfully in his teaching and leadership roles in Higher Education, in the UK and in Australia.
As well as having been programme leader for 7 Higher Education degree programmes, Martin has also designed and led or co-led a series of short professional development courses for industry. These include leadership development; sustainable, entrepreneurial & innovative tourism management, and event management.
Martin has led or co-lead 11 consultation projects for providers of large tourism events (arts, agriculture and sport). More recently these have focussed on community future visioning activity Martin has also maintained contact with the industry environment through supportive involvement in related agencies, non-executive directorship or committee roles. This applied activity drives his continued desire for providing a learning, teaching and research experience that is professionally and socially useful, and which allows for forward thinking. Sustainability, resilience, regenerative capacity, and social justice are key components of this work.
Enthusiasm for all things relating to sustainability, the UN SDGs, and social benefits was present in the research Martin undertakes. Martin’s PhD, ‘Sustainable festivals and events – an inquiry of leadership and futures’, is exemplar of why and how future thinking is central to his work. This desire to focus ahead is demonstrated in the editorship of 6 books and as guest editorship of 8 journal special issues. He has over 80 publications (journal articles, reports and book chapters).
Dr. Adrian Müller
Adrian is a passionate Scientific Project Leader at CRED-T, Uni Bern's Tourism Research Center, bringing a unique mix of academic dedication and vast hands-on industry experience in tourism. His research interests include sustainable travel and tourism, with particular experitise in business travel and aviation, examining sustainable consumer behavior, and a focus on decarbonization. He has had the opportunity to study and teach various topics in marketing and management, with a focus on tourism, gaining diverse teaching experience at different universities and levels. He has been part of numerous meaningful academic and practical projects, encouraging international collaboration and implementing strategic marketing solutions in the dynamic fields of tourism and transportation. He actively demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning, combining analytical skills with real-world industry knowledge in his journey.
Christoph Carnier
Christoph Carnier is the president of Germany's leading Business Travel Association VDR. He began his career in travel management shortly after completing his training as a travel agent in Darmstadt, joining Merck’s travel management team in 1992. Since 2008, he has led Merck’s global travel management as Senior Director for Travel, Fleet & Events. For Christoph, membership in VDR represents being part of a strong community capable of driving meaningful changes across the industry. Over the past 27 years, he has closely followed VDR’s work and observed its growth into a respected voice in the political sphere, advocating for corporate travel management interests. As a board member, Christoph is committed to attracting new talent, expanding VDR’s influence in Berlin and Brussels, and evolving travel management practices to meet the future needs of VDR members. Outside of his professional role, Christoph enjoys tennis, cycling, cooking, and golf. He values spending time outdoors with his partner and children, exploring new places and cultures worldwide. His personal motto is, “Speak your mind, but be fair.” He has been part of numerous meaningful academic and practical projects, encouraging international collaboration and implementing strategic marketing solutions in the dynamic fields of tourism and transportation. He actively demonstrates a commitment to ongoing learning, combining analytical skills with real-world industry knowledge in his journey.
Tim Deisinger
Tim Deisinger is the Managing Director of the Travel Industry Club (TIC). It brings together the movers and shakers of the entire travel industry - leisure and business travel. We are the only business club in which decision-makers from all segments of the travel industry are organised. Our members are generally not the companies, but exclusively their leading figures in person - airliners, hoteliers, tourism experts and media representatives. Tim will join our "Voices of Future Researchers" talk and will bring in the practicioner view from his ample experience.
Anna Kollmer
Anna Kollmer is Managing Director of elysium audio solutions GmbH, together with her brother Jonas Bayerlein. elysium is a tourism start-up in the AI tech business. It is developing an AI live translation app for tour guides that allows tour guides to live translate their tours via a standard smartphone into different target languages for its listeners.
Anna's journey started with taking over the lead in her parent's business BMS Audio, a tech provider for tour guide audio equipment. Very quickly she and her brother found that new technology might make their products obsolete. So they took the challenge and reinvented audio tours.
Michael Buller
Michael Buller is Chairman of the VIR, the interest group of the German digital tourism
industry and represent the industry in public. With over 30 years in the tourism industry, he is still curious about the next big development. Michael has co-founded companies and support startups active in tourism. Curiosity and passion have defined his entire career— not only in the field of digitalization. Michael is member of the Advisory Board Member on the Tourism Committee, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).
The association Verband Internet Reisevertrieb e.V. (VIR) represents the core themes security on the internet, trust, transparency, and quality standards. It is a speaker for the internet tourist business and a point of contact for consumers, the media and the industry itself. Among its members are seven of the leading online travel portals in Germany (ebookers.de, expedia.de, holidaycheck.de, jt-touristik.de, lastminute.de, opodo.de and weg.de), which jointly generate a turnover of about one billion euros and employ more than 500 people. The travel portals were visited online by an average of 3 million people per month during the first half of 2009.
